Description	An essential and integral part of the Granada Relocation Project was the farm operation. Sometimes called the Amache Farm, the Granada Project farm area included over 10,500 acres of land. While some acreage was unsuitable for farming and used only as grazing land for animals, other acreage was Arkansas River bottom land rich in nutrients for the production of a variety of vegetables. Some of the crops raised by the evacuees were familiar to people living in the area but other crops were raised in Colorado for the first time. The shortage of labor became so acute that school children were asked to help harvest the crops. Even elementary level school children assisted in the farm operation.
