on the
newspaper
as a
rewrite
staff
member
and
sometimes
cartoonist
.
Robert
Hirano
is
in the
top
row

from the
left
with
glasses
wearing
a
white
shirt

is

Soon
after
the
arrival
of the
evacuees
, a
mimeographed
newspaper
was
started
.
It
was
named
the "
Granada
Pioneer.
" The
news
was
limited
to
reports
on
camp
and
evacuee
activities
and
kept
the
residents
informed
of
War
Relocation
Authority
(WRA)
regulations
. This
photo

. The
newspaper
staff
was
under
the
supervision
of a
WRA
administrator
.
News
was
printed
in
both
English
and
Japanese
and
distributed
free
to
evacuees
two
to
three
times
a
week
.
Staff
turnover
was
high
as
reporters
relocated
from
Amache
to
resume
their
education
,
find
employment
or
join
the
military
.
