Description |
Some Amache residents bound for Tule Lake. Note that this description refers to am1_0011, am1_0012, am1_0013, and am1_0014: In 1943 the Army, in a crude attempt to separate the "loyal" from the "disloyal" evacuees, developed a highly controversial questionnaire. When the questionnaire was used, it created great consternation among the evacuees and resulted in much confusion and anger. Nevertheless, the end result was a transfer of evacuees between the nine centers and the tenth one -- Tule Lake -- designated as the center for the "disloyals." Amache sent 125 evacuees to Tule Lake and received 993 from that center. |
