Description
A
system
of
camp
governance
was
organized
at
Amache
. The
Amache
Community
Council
consisted
of an
elected
representative
from
each
block
. The
representatives
elected
a
five
member
executive
council
.
Elections
were
held
every
six
months
.
Each
block
also had a "
block
manager
"
who
spoke
Japanese
and
served
as an
intermediary
for the
WRA
administration
.
WRA
Project
Director
at
Amache
,
James
G
.
Lindley
,
outlined
the
four
objectives
of the
center
:
1)
temporary
housing
and
subsistence
,
2)
an
orderly
community
in
which
to
live
,
3)
education
and
training
for
youth
and
adults
and
4)
relocation
. The
purpose
of the
Amache
Council
was to
facilitate
the
realization
of the
objectives
. The
council
responsibilities
included
the
formulation
of
ordinances
governing
community
life
within
Amache
and
hearing
cases
involving
violations
of those
regulations
.
