Description	The next photographs show the attempt by evacuees to make Amache more attractive. Where contractors cleared the ground to build the barracks, they stripped the land of all vegetation. Soon after their arrival, the evacuees planted trees and small gardens near their barracks. Despite the poor soil conditions near the barracks, the trees and flower gardens began to grow. Clothes were hung on outside clotheslines. Frequent dust storms, rain storms, and snow storms forced evacuees to hang their wash inside crowded barrack rooms.
