Description |
The WRA administrative area included offices, housing, warehouses, post store, hospital, sewage plant, and a separate fenced section for military police. Barracks for military police were in the administration area. Evacuees did not have private cars in Amache. Later, when the military presence was reduced, some of the barracks were converted and used as housing for WRA personnel. Some WRA personnel lived in one and two bedroom apartments with water for kitchen, sink, indoor bathrooms, central heating and a laundry room. 181 WRA personnel were employed at Amache in administrative and supervisory positions. While some WRA personnel chose to live in Amache, most elected to live in a neighboring town such as Granada, Lamar, or Holly. WRA personnel ate in a mess hall separate from the evacuees and shopped in their own PX - post exchange. |
