Description	Winter climate conditions in Amache could get severe. In January 1943, the thermometer registered 22 below zero! Evacuees from California had never been subjected to such conditions and did not bring winter clothing to adequately cope with the cold. They purchased coats and other items from catalog stores. Some were able to obtain surplus G.I. clothing (all oversize for the smaller evacuees).
