Notes	This photograph was created by the cataloger from negatives provided by John LeBaron. In 1984, Mr. LeBaron took photographs of photographs owned by Ko Ijichi, a relative of Kanaye Nagasawa.
Description	In the back row, on the far right is Kanaye Nagasawa, an influential member of the Fountaingrove community. Kanaye's birth name was Hikosuke Isonaga; he was originally from Kagoshima, Japan and of samurai ancestry. As an adolescent, he was one of the 'Kagoshima Fifteen,' a group of young Japanese that were secretly sent abroad to study Western culture in the 1860s, when Japan was still closed to Western visitors. Nagasawa moved to Santa Rosa with Thomas Lake Harris, founder of Fountaingrove. While here, he expanded upon his talents as a viticulturalist by producing the 'Fountain Grove' wine label. Nagasawa was one of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. and an important member of the Japanese American community. Seated in the middle of the front row is Santa Rosa's famous botanist, Luther Burbank.
