Petitioner signer of the Coastal initiative:
During late Spring of this year you signed a petition to allow yourself and the voters of California a chance to save our coast on the November ballot. You were part of that 5% of California voters whose signatures qualified Prop 20. Maybe you signed because you want to see such issues brought to-a vote. Maybe you signed because you knew the legislature had failed for four years to pass coastal protection bills. Maybe you signed because you enjoy out beautiful coastline. Or maybe you signed because you are knowledgeable about the giant land developers including Westinghouse, Signal Oil, Irvine Company, Boise Cascade, Dillingham Corporation, and many others, who plan to urbanize our coastline with premature home developments. The Sonoma County Coastal Alliance, a branch of the California Coastal Alliance including Sierra Club and 110 other civic groups, would like to forewarn you of the massive propaganda campaign that will be used against Proposition 20, financed by the kind of corporate power represented above. A bank roll of $1,500,000 will be spent by these coastal developers to discredit Proposition 20. Please ask yourself their motives and please tell you neighbors and friends to avoid being swayed by the kind of propaganda that $1 /2 million can buy. The Alliance, with a limited budget, would appreciate your help, financial or physical, to counteract this onslaught against an initiative whose language has stood the test of four years of legislative hearings and is backed by 60 state legislators. Send a dollar and become an advocate for long overdue coast protection. Your signature gave the coast a new chance. Your vote will save your coast. Sincerely, Bill Kortum
Chairman, Sonoma County Coastal Alliance
