Dear Sir: Your letter received and contents noted. I saw Mr. Close the party who made the offer on the noted vines and he said that it was so late now that he did not want them anymore. I kept the vines moist but for all that they look very bad and I earnestly don’t believe that one quarter would grow. I believe the best thing is to burn them for I do not believe anyone would buy them at any price. The earthquake treated me very rough the wine tanks could not stand the strain and burst in every direction. I lost in the two cellars about two hundred thousand gallons of wine besides the cooperage. I will send what is due on your bill as soon as possible. Respectfully Wm. Lehn.
